No iridophores were observed in tfec−/− mutants at 5 and 10 dpf. (A-F) Many iridophores and melanophores were observed on the iris and yolk sac, respectively, in wild-type fish (A-C), while no iridophores and a small number of melanophores were observed on the iris and yolk sac, respectively, in tfec−/− mutants (D-F). (G-L) Iridophores were observed on the iris, operculum, peritoneum and swim bladder of wild-type fish (G-I), while no iridophores were observed in tfec−/− mutants which displayed transparent phenotype with the gill filaments, heart, swim bladder, intestine, gallbladder, and liver visible from outside (J-L).
