The mitfa-expressing cells were largely lost in the absence of Pax3 in medaka (A,B) and in zebrafish (D,E). Those cells appeared to be normal or rather increased in the medaka pax7a mutant (C) and in the zebrafish pax7a; pax7b double mutant (F). Images are representative of more than ten embryos.
