The rate of delayed hair cell loss is dependent on initial gentamicin concentration. Fish were treated with doses of gentamicin (25, 50, 100, and 200 μM) for 1 h (red bar), then rinsed and incubated in fresh medium (blue bar). Loss of hair cells was assessed at 5, 11, 17, and 23 h after the 1 h incubation period. Increasing initial dose results in more rapid delayed hair cell loss.
