Macrophage death can lead to dissemination of infection.
All images are stills taken from a two hour timelapse of an infected TR1 morphant fish at four dpi. A single dead infected macrophage is rephagocytosed by two separate macrophages. When available, flattened three-dimensional fluorescent stacks are provided to indicate position of bacteria (left column). Time is shown in minutes. The original macrophage is indicated by left-facing bracket, first incoming macrophage is indicated by upward-facing bracket, and second incoming macrophage is indicated by right-facing bracket. Scale bar, 10 μm.
