- Description
- Enables 3-beta-hydroxy-Delta5-steroid dehydrogenase (NAD+) activity. Acts upstream of or within embryonic morphogenesis and steroid biosynthetic process. Is expressed in brain; gonad; head kidney; and yolk syncytial layer. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in hypertension and hypospadias. Orthologous to human HSD3B1 (hydroxy-delta-5-steroid dehydrogenase, 3 beta- and steroid delta-isomerase 1) and HSD3B2 (hydroxy-delta-5-steroid dehydrogenase, 3 beta- and steroid delta-isomerase 2).

- Note
-
The name of this gene was changed because another gene was found to have very strong orthology with human HSD3B1. The current name of this gene, hsd3b2, reflects this gene's relationship to other hsd3b2 genes in fish and not its orthology to human HSD3B2
