Description
Predicted to enable DNA-binding transcription factor activity, RNA polymerase II-specific and RNA polymerase II cis-regulatory region sequence-specific DNA binding activity. Involved in olfactory bulb development. Acts upstream of or within with a positive effect on iridophore differentiation; melanocyte differentiation; and xanthophore differentiation. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including nervous system development; neural crest cell migration; and sensory organ development. Predicted to be active in nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including glioblast; head; iridoblast; nervous system; and neural crest. Used to study Hirschsprung's disease and Waardenburg's syndrome. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in Kallmann syndrome; PCWH syndrome; Waardenburg syndrome type 2E; and Waardenburg syndrome type 4C. Orthologous to human SOX10 (SRY-box transcription factor 10).
