Ventralization of embryos by ectopic vent expression. (A) Wild-type embryo. (B) vent-injected embryo, V2 phenotype. (C) vent-injected embryo, V3 phenotype. Embryos in the V2 class lack head structures such as eyes and hatching gland and have a partial loss of notochord. Embryos in the more strongly ventralized V3 class have a complete lack of forebrain and notochord.
