Patterns of expressed phenotypic variance over time in larval zebrafish with different crocc2 genotypes. Disparity (Procrustes variance) refers to the magnitude of phenotypic variance. It was calculated in two ways: (1) thick lines represent disparity calculated within genotypes at each stage, and (2) thin lines represent disparity calculated within ages for each genotype. The trends for each calculation are the same, and show that disparity is similar across all genotypes at 4 and 18 dpf. At 7 dpf, disparity decreases in wild-type animals, which is consistent with canalization. Neither heterozygous nor homozygous mutants show a similar drop in phenotypic variation. At 12 dpf, disparity increases in homozygous mutant larvae, which is consistent with a loss of canalization. |
