In this construct, the myo6b promoter drives expression in sensory hair cells of a construct encoding an N-terminal truncated form of Tmie, in which the predicted first transmembrane helix of Tmie has been replaced with a known signal peptide (SP) from the zebrafish glutamate receptor Gria2a. The unrelated signal peptide serves to preserve the predicted membrane topology of Tmie. mCherry expression is directed to the nuclei of sensory hair cells
