- Enables sequence-specific DNA binding activity. Involved in hindbrain development and positive regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Acts upstream of or within enteric nervous system development; exocrine pancreas development; and neural crest cell migration involved in autonomic nervous system development. Located in cytoplasm and nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including fin bud; mesoderm; neural keel; neural plate; and posterior neural tube. Orthologous to several human genes including MEIS3 (Meis homeobox 3) and MEIS3P2 (Meis homeobox 3 pseudogene 2).
