Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in melanoma (multiple); ocular albinism; oculocutaneous albinism (multiple); retinoschisis; and vitiligo. Is expressed in several structures, including eye; male organism; melanoblast; neural crest; and presumptive retinal pigmented epithelium. Orthologous to human TYR (tyrosinase).
