a) HiLo images and b) images with uniform illumination of reporter-gene driven mcherry fluorescence of transgenic zebrafish. The fluorescence is regulated by part of the promotor region of the thyreoglobulin gene, coding for a thyroid hormone precursor. The optical sectioning provided by the HiLo algorithm leads to the rejection of the out-of-focus contributions and thus increased contrast of the images compared to the uniformly illuminated images. Scalebar is 10 µm.
