Northern analysis of 6–9 hr postfertilization (hpf) zebrafish embryo mRNA probed with a 3′-UT probe for zALK-8. Analysis of 4.5 μg of poly(A+) mRNA detects two mRNAs, a major transcript of 3.6 kb and a minor transcript of 4.3 kb. RNA molecular weight markers (Boehringer- Manneheim) were used to size the mRNAs. Wholemount in situ hybridization analysis of zALK-8 mRNA expression. Wholemount in situ hybridization was performed on zebrafish embryos at the following stages of development: 50% epiboly, 5–6 hpf (a); b) 80% epiboly, 8–9 hpf (b); 14–18 somite stage, 16–18 hpf (c); 24 hpf, lateral view (d); 24 hpf, dorsal view (e); and 48 hpf, ventral view (f). b, Blastoderm; y, yolk; tb, tail bud; n, neural rod; e, eye; m, mouth.
