Fig. 3 Iridophores were largely recovered in pnp4a−/− mutants during the late stages of development. (A-F) At 35 dpf, the iris (B) and operculum (C)were covered with iridophores on wild-type fish (A), while only a small number of iridophores were observed on the iris (E) and operculum (F) of pnp4a−/− mutants (D), and 7–9 black vertical bars were formed in both wild-type fish and mutants. (G-L) At 90 dpf, both wild-type fish and mutants were covered with iridophores on the body surface (G, J) and iris (H, K) due to the recovery of iridophores in mutants. The wild-type fish displayed 7–9 clear black vertical bars (G), while the mutant fish displayed blurry vertical bars (J) on their body surface. Blue arrowheads indicate iridophores.
