Human and zebrafish heart repair. Phases of repair/regeneration in human and zebrafish hearts post-injury, showing that initial inflammatory and scarring responses are similar, but the final stages diverge, with humans exhibiting persistent scar tissue and poor renewal of CMs. Zebrafish models of MI (e.g. cryoinjury shown here) exhibit a regenerative phase of scar resolution and CM proliferation, terminating in a return to healthy myocardium
