The effect of LMWF on hair cell regeneration. (A) Hair cells in the lateral line labeled with YO-PRO-1were eliminated in zebrafish 4 h after neomycin (500 μM) exposure. The number of trunk neuromasts and hair cells per neuromast were markedly increased in the LMWF treatment group 12 h after neomycin exposure. Insets are close views of P8 neuromasts. (B) Summary data from 10 independent experiments (p < 0.001) compared to neomycin only. (C) A regenerated hair cell stained with FM1-43. (NM; Neomycin, LMWF; low molecular weight foucoidan, * p < 0.05, scale bar; 10 μM). |
