Fig. 2 At the beginning of gastrulation expression decreases transiently at the dorsal margin then strongly increases in involuted axial mesoderm. The marginal expression decreases progressively and is no longer observed at late gastrula stage. In the axis expression initially restricted to the axial mesoderm starts to be observed in ventral neuroectoderm, first in cells immediately adjacent to the migrating axial mesoderm. At the end of gastrulation, expression decreases strongly in antero-axial mesoderm and is only observed in presumptive ventral forebrain.
