ABSTRACTExquisite embryonic lethal mutations have been isolated in hundreds of genes necessary for zebrafish development. Analysis of this resource promises to enhance our understanding of the molecular genetic mechanisms of vertebrate development. This review discusses the state of the zebrafish genome project and the genetic trickery that can expedite molecular isolation of genes disrupted by these mutations.
