Biography and Research Interest
The main goals of the Phramacology Research Program are to identify the mode of action, toxicity and mechanism of resistance of drugs (experimental or approved) used for the treatment different subtypes of breast cancers. Taking into consideration that cancer is a dynamic disease susceptible to alterations in systemic homeostasis, tumor microenvironment and therapeutic stressors, we are particularly intrested in mapping the evolution of cancer cells' adaptation to drugs and designing appropriate strategies to maximally inhibit tumor growth. We are planning on using zebrafish as a model system to study the adaptive nature of anticancer drug resistance. Other two areas of focus are to model inflammation-associated carcinogenesis and teratogencity of reactive drug intermediates in zebrafish.
