Statement of Research Interest
We are interested in studying vision and in particular the retina using the genetic and behavioral tools. We have identified a number of visually impaired mutations employing optokinetic and optomotor behavioral assays. These mutations are currently further characterized morphologically, physiologically and gentically. Such forward genetic studies are complemented by morpholino knock-down experiments. The ultimate goal of our research is to identify genes involved in building a functional visual system and specify their function in the processing of visual information. We are particularly interested in creating models for humans eye diseases and address mechanisms of light adaptation
