Fig. 2 Physical discontinuity and contamination scenarios of the habitats. The passages connecting the compartments define the discontinuity scenario, where a) corresponds to zero-discontinuity, b) low-discontinuity, and c) high-discontinuity. The compartments colored in green indicate the starting point of the experiment where the fish were placed, the compartments colored in blue indicate the goal compartment with food (attractive factor), and the compartments colored in red indicate the contaminated compartments. Both contaminant levels were located in the same compartments in their respective treatments. The labels and numbers were assigned to each compartment to better track the fish and the chemical characterization of the contaminant in the system.
