System timing configuration diagrams for single- (a) and dual-beam (b) confocal illumination. A common trigger starts the camera acquisition and tailored RF ramps on the signal generator that drives the AOD illumination sweep. The image insets are frames from Video 1 (MPEG, 0.1 MB [URL: https://doi.org/10.1117/1.JBO.24.10.106504.1]), at the times marked by the dotted lines, of a uniform fluorescent 1% agarose gel in water, imaged with the corresponding rolling shutter readout mode.
