Fig. 2 Cellular expression patterns of five genes that were reduced in the ONL by Irx7 knockdown at 52 hpf. The expression of five genes, including (A) gnat1, (B) nme2l, (C) aanat2, (D) ndrg1a and (E) rcv1, was reduced in the ONL by Irx7 knockdown. These genes all showed a lower expression level in the Irx7-morphant retinas compared with the controls; thus, they might be normally activated by irx7. For (A) gnat1 and (B) nme2l, the lateral and ventral views of the eye are shown; while for (C) aanat2, (D) ndrg1a and (E) rcv1, the dorsal-tilted and ventral views of the eye region of whole-mount samples, as well as the ventral view of the dissected eyes are shown. The specific expression locations of these genes are listed in Table 2. For (D) ndrg1a, even though there seemed to be expression in the ONL in the whole-mount images (while arrows); the dissected eyes indicated the expression was only detected in the ventral patch (red arrows).
