aerobic ammonia oxidation to nitrite via pyruvic oxime

Term ID
GO:0070275
Synonyms
Definition
The metabolic process in which ammonia (NH4+) is oxidized to nitrite (NO2) in the presence of oxygen. Hydroxylamine is produced enzymatically, and, in the presence of pyruvate, forms pyruvic oxime in a spontaneous, non-enzymatic reaction; pyruvic oxime is then converted to nitrite.
