Definition: Thin, rod-shaped, anteroventrally directed membrane bone that develops as a separate outgrowth from the cartilage parapophysis of the fourth vertebra; develops ventrally to curve around the anterior head of the swim bladder. It articulates with the tripus at the tripus-swim bladder connection. Often termed a fifth Weberian ossicle.
