Definition: Portion of tissue that is a patch of thickened, pseudostratified epithelium in the inner ear, consisting of regular arrays of sensory hair cells interspersed with supporting cells. The macula neglecta a pair of sensory patches positioned on the floor of the utricle adjacent to the utriculosaccular foramen at the base of the common crus.
