Definition: Indirect ophthalmoscopy utilizing a slit lamp or slit-lamp apparatus, an instrument in which a high-intensity beam of light is projected through a narrow slit for observation of the interior, particularly the retina, of the eye. In indirect ophthalmoscopy the observer uses a hand-held lens, positioned close to the subject's eye, that produces an inverted or reversed image.
