| Definition: |
A method which utilizes a piece of physical instrumentation, machinery or equipment designed and used to measure the movements and/or behaviors of an organism in which a piezoelectric accelerometer converts mechanical force into an electrical signal that can be measured by the recording instrument. A piezoelectric accelerometer utilizes the piezoelectric effect of certain materials, that is, the accumulation of an electrical charge in a substance in response to applied mechanical stress, to measure dynamic changes in mechanical variables. |
