Term: pharyngeal arch 2 neural crest cell
Note: This page represents a term created by the combination ("post-composition") of two ontology terms. For more information on the individual terms, click the hyperlinked name.
Name: pharyngeal arch 2
Synonyms: hyoid arch, visceral arch 2
Definition: The second pharyngeal arch, also known as the hyoid arch, forms jaw support structures. Anteriorly positioned cranial neural crest cells, which align with rhombomeres 4/5, contribute to the hyoid arch structures including the ceratohyla and hyosymplectic cartilages.

Name: neural crest cell
Synonyms: neural crest cells
Definition: A cell of the neural crest. The neural crest is a strip of specialized ectoderm, the neural plate border, which flanks each side of the embryonic neural plate. Neural crest cells are multipotent. Premigratory neural crest cells are found at the neural plate boarder, some of which will undergo ectomesenchymal transition and delamination to form migratory neural crest cells. Most of the cranial and all of the spinal sensory ganglion cells arise by differentiation of neural crest cells.
