Term: DEL adherens junction
Name: DEL
Synonyms: deep cell layer, DEL cells
Definition: A multilayer of deep cells of fairly uniform thickness that forms during early epiboly (at dome stage; upon conversion of the blastodisc to the blastoderm); during gastrulation the DEL (deep cell layer) gives rise to the epiblast and hypoblast.

Name: adherens junction
Synonyms: cell-cell adherens junction
Definition: A cell-cell junction composed of the epithelial cadherin-catenin complex. The epithelial cadherins, or E-cadherins, of each interacting cell extend through the plasma membrane into the extracellular space and bind to each other. The E-cadherins bind to catenins on the cytoplasmic side of the membrane, where the E-cadherin-catenin complex binds to cytoskeletal components and regulatory and signaling molecules.
