FUNCTION: Coreceptor for class 3 semaphorins. Necessary for signaling by class 3 semaphorins and subsequent remodeling of the cytoskeleton. Plays a role in axon guidance in the developing nervous system. Class 3 semaphorins bind to a complex composed of a neuropilin and a plexin. The plexin modulates the affinity of the complex for specific semaphorins, and its cytoplasmic domain is required for the activation of down-stream signaling events in the cytoplasm. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:17475806, ECO:0000269|PubMed:17699603}. SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cell membrane {ECO:0000305}; Single-pass type I membrane protein {ECO:0000305}. TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Detected in primary motor neurons in the embryonic nervous system. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:17475806}. SIMILARITY: Belongs to the plexin family. {ECO:0000305}. |
