Maternal expression of zebrafish ror genes. (A–C) Whole-mount in situ hybridization using rora, b, and c riboprobes on 1-cell stage embryos reveal expression only for rorc. Lateral view, animal pole to top. Scale bar: 200 μm. (D) Semi-quantitative RT-PCR using cDNA samples prepared from unfertilized eggs (0 hpf) and early embryos (1–6 hpf) confirms that rorc exists as a maternal transcript.

Stage Range: 1-cell to Germ-ring

Early embryonic expression (12–18 hpf) of the zebrafish ror genes. A, C, E, G, I, K, M, O, Q are lateral views, anterior/dorsal to left. B, D, F, H, J, L, N, P, R are anterior/dorsal views. Arrowheads in G,M indicate the presumptive diencephalon. Scale bars: 200 μm.

Late embryonic and larval expression (1–4 dpf) of the zebrafish ror genes. A–C, G–I, M–O, S–U are dorsal views. D–F, J–L, P–R, V–X are lateral views. All embryos oriented anterior to left. dc, diencephalon; ey, eye; gu, gut; he, heart; le, lens; li, liver; pg, pineal gland; px, pharynx; re, retina; so, somites. Scale bars: 200 μm.

Specific expression of zebrafish ror genes within the pineal gland and eye field, and of rorc in the developing gut. (A–C) Expression in the pineal gland and eye in 36 hpf embryos; dorsal view, anterior to left. (D) Expression of rorc within the pineal gland, retina, the developing gut and associated organs; 60 hpf embryos; dorsal view, anterior to left. (E) rorc expression in the gut of a 4 dpf larva; lateral view, anterior to left. gu, gut; li, liver; pa, pancreas; pg, pineal gland. Scale bars: 100 μm.
