STATEMENT OF RESEARCH INTERESTS
The primary interest of the lab is in the intercellular signals and transcription factors that pattern the early vertebrate embryo, using zebrafish (and Xenopus) as model systems. In zebrafish, we have concentrated on the role of the mesoderm in forming the early embryo, focusing particularly on the roles of T-box transcription factors such as Spadetail, and on signaling through the Nodal, Fgf and Bmp pathways. In addition, we have recently developed an interest in the genes that regulate the formation of the epidermis, particularly the dorsal and ventral fins.
