The Vijayan Lab studies the impact of stress on the physiology and behaviour of fish. Specifically, we use zebrafish to study the impact of cortisol and corticosteroid receptor activation in regulating metabolism, behaviour, and early-life developmental programming. We have cloned and characterized both the glucocorticoid receptor (GR) and the mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) in zebrafish and have recently created knockouts for both receptors using CRISPR/Cas9 mutagenesis to study the functional significance of these receptor activation.
