Description
Predicted to have signaling receptor activity. Predicted to be involved in inflammatory response and toll-like receptor signaling pathway. Localizes to protein-containing complex. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in several diseases, including artery disease (multiple); diabetes mellitus (multiple); eye disease (multiple); lung disease (multiple); and vasculitis (multiple). Is expressed in several structures, including blood; heart; integument; liver; and pleuroperitoneal region. Orthologous to human TLR4 (toll like receptor 4).

Note
Orthology with AA evidence from Jault C et al (Mol Immunol 40(11), 759-771; ZDB-PUB-040109-34) was deleted in light of data in Sullivan C et al (ZDB-PUB-091023-26). The authors state: "The strong conclusion from the analysis of conserved syntenies is that the zebrafish genes called tlr4a and tlr4b are not orthologs of the human TLR4 gene, but represent a reciprocal loss of ohnologs derived from the second round of genome duplication at about the time of the vertebrate radiation. The implication of orthology can be avoided where none exists by calling the zebrafish genes tlr4ba and tlr4bb, and the human gene TLR4A.
