UniProt ID: Q6Q420 |
FUNCTION: Component of the small ribosomal subunit (By similarity). Part of the small subunit (SSU) processome, first precursor of the small eukaryotic ribosomal subunit. During the assembly of the SSU processome in the nucleolus, many ribosome biogenesis factors, an RNA chaperone and ribosomal proteins associate with the nascent pre-rRNA and work in concert to generate RNA folding, modifications, rearrangements and cleavage as well as targeted degradation of pre- ribosomal RNA by the RNA exosome (By similarity). Required for erythropoiesis during embryonic development (PubMed:27909223). {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:P62244, ECO:0000269|PubMed:27909223}. SUBUNIT: Component of the 40S ribosomal subunit. Part of the small subunit (SSU) processome, composed of more than 70 proteins and the RNA chaperone small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA) U3. {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:P62244}. SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cytoplasm {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:P62244}. Nucleus, nucleolus {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:P62244}. DISRUPTION PHENOTYPE: Morpholino-injected embryos have a thin yolk sac, bent tail, and show a marked decrease of erythrocyte production. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:27909223}. SIMILARITY: Belongs to the universal ribosomal protein uS8 family. {ECO:0000305}. |
