UniProt ID: Q7SY48 |
FUNCTION: Ribosome biogenesis factor. Involved in nucleolar processing of pre-18S ribosomal RNA. Required for optimal pre-ribosomal RNA transcription by RNA polymerase I (By similarity). Part of the small subunit (SSU) processome, first precursor of the small eukaryotic ribosomal subunit. During the assembly of the SSU processome in the nucleolus, many ribosome biogenesis factors, an RNA chaperone and ribosomal proteins associate with the nascent pre-rRNA and work in concert to generate RNA folding, modifications, rearrangements and cleavage as well as targeted degradation of pre-ribosomal RNA by the RNA exosome (By similarity). Required for cell survival in the CNS through its role in rRNA synthesis and processing. {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q9H583, ECO:0000269|PubMed:16531401}. SUBUNIT: Part of the small subunit (SSU) processome, composed of more than 70 proteins and the RNA chaperone small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA) U3. {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q9H583}. SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus, nucleolus {ECO:0000250|UniProtKB:Q9H583}. DISRUPTION PHENOTYPE: Abnormalities in the brain starting at midsomitogenesis stages. {ECO:0000269|PubMed:16531401}. SIMILARITY: Belongs to the HEATR1/UTP10 family. {ECO:0000305}. |
