The tangential nucleus is located in rhombomere 5 and receives a dense utricular input. Tangential nucleus neurons project contralaterally to extraocular motoneurons and to multiple sites within the reticulospinal complex; unlike other classes of vestibular neuron, they modulate their firing in response to static head displacements.
